Village Council

Meetings

The Lake Orion Village Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30pm at Village Hall, 21 East Church Street, Lake Orion, MI 48362.  If a regular council meeting falls on a village-recognized holiday, then the council meeting is held on the next business day that is not a holiday.

The Village Council conducts its meetings in accordance with its duly adopted rules of procedure and Roberts' Rules of Order, Newly Revised.

Composition of the Village Council

The Village Council consists of seven members elected by the registered electors of the village. Of the four (4) At-Large Councilmen, the three (3) receiving the highest number of votes hold office for four (4) years, and the one (1) receiving the fourth highest number of votes holds office for two (2) years. Terms commence on the first Monday following the regular municipal election. President and President Pro-Tem positions are elected by Council at its first regular meeting following each election.

Membership is regulated by the Michigan Home Rule Village Act (Act No. 278 of P.A. of 1909, as amended) and the Village of Lake Orion Charter.  Election of council members was amended by state law in 2003 and 2004 by the Election Consolidation Law and subsequent adoption of a Village Council resolution on November 13, 2012, extending the terms of the then-current council members by 14 months and changing the election date to the November General Election of even years.  Village Council elections occur on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years.  Elections are administered by the Orion Township Clerk.
